Before you book the traffic
- Confirm that your offer allows paid email promotion and any proposed landing-page flow.
- Choose a relevant list topic and explicitly permitted countries.
- Test the destination on mobile and submit the form or checkout yourself.
- Create a campaign-specific tracking identifier without putting personal data in URLs.
- Agree on counted clicks, delivery timing, reporting and remedies in writing.
- Set a maximum spend and decide what evidence would justify another test.
While the email is going out
Keep the landing page available and avoid making simultaneous changes to its headline, form, price and offer unless the test was designed for those variations. Watch for unexpected redirects or a broken confirmation page. Save the vendor's send and delivery updates so you can compare them with your own timestamps.
After delivery closes
Reconcile ordered clicks, delivered clicks, usable landing-page visits, sign-ups and purchases. Allow for any valid sales or refund observation window before making a profitability claim. Record what changed compared with your last campaign, including list topic and creative.
Decide the next experiment
If tracking failed, repair tracking rather than scaling. If the seller missed a written delivery promise, use the agreed resolution process. If delivery was sound but sign-ups were poor, review message-to-page fit before assuming the entire traffic source is unsuitable.
Continue with the test order guide and the reporting worksheet.
Use this sequence as a working run sheet
| When | Check | Evidence to save |
|---|---|---|
| Before booking | Offer permitted; audience and countries fit; budget capped | Approval and quote |
| Before send | Creative matches page; form and resource work on mobile | Final creative and test result |
| At launch | Final tracking URL resolves; send begins in agreed window | Campaign ID and start time |
| During delivery | Page stays reachable; major changes are logged | Issue notes with timestamps |
| After delivery | Reconcile counts; record leads, purchases and limitations | Provider report and your own log |
Give each person a clear responsibility
If the vendor is writing the email, establish who approves its claims and final link. If a colleague controls the landing page, make sure they know not to change the form or destination midway through a test without recording it. If you manage everything yourself, the same rule applies: save the final versions before the send.
Record a stop condition in advance
For a first campaign, the spend limit may be the whole ordered amount, with no automatic rebuy. Operational stop conditions are different: a broken page, unsafe claim or incorrect destination may justify pausing a send if the seller's process allows it. Agree on escalation contact details before launch, because an email placement cannot always be recalled after it reaches subscribers.
Close the loop with a short decision memo
Write down what was ordered, what was reported, what your systems observed and what changed during the send. Separate delivery compliance from funnel quality. End with one of three decisions: investigate a discrepancy, improve a specific conversion step, or run a new bounded comparison. If evidence is too thin, say “inconclusive” rather than calling the test a success or failure.
